First off, I want to thank everyone who was praying for Peyton and our family yesterday, it meant a lot! Ok, now to the details. Peyton is in the CVICU, sedated, on a respirator, several IV's, drain tubes, and of course heart monitors. Today was a good day, she started off really strong this morning...maybe too strong! The nurse and respiratory therapist decided to begin to lower the assistance from the respirator. She did good and was mostly breathing on her own. They decided to remove what is called the LA line (which delivers pain meds directly to the heart), she did well, so they decided to go ahead and remove the breathing tube....bad idea! Her throat was a little swollen due to the tube and some activity she had early that morning...lots of moving around. The swelling caused her to be very wheezy and a breathing treatment didn't do the trick, so...the breathing tube went back in. She is on steroids now to help her throat heal. This should take about 2 days. She is still breathing on her own (with very minor assistance), so that is good news. She is on fluids and had a dose of albumin to hydrate her. This evening has gone great too! They have turned off the EPI (adrenaline that was giving her heart a boost), lowered the respirator more and is still breathing great. Her urine out put is great and the drainage from her chest is starting to clear...less and less blood! She is progressing very nicely and is sleeping well! Continue to pray for her recovery.
